Acrylic on linen, ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

I work from found and created photographs. This image was taken at the Sydney Mardi Gras. I was particularly taken with the vibrancy, colour, movement, music, light and darkness - and hoped to capture this in the painting. I have experimented with the surface of the linen - wanting to represent movement through shifts in the surface, I used Japanese Rice paper directly applied to the linen to break up the surface. I particularly liked the way the paint colours once applied would soak in some of the edges of the paper creating a sense of movement.
I was also interested in achieving depth in the movement of the paint layers which can be seen in the detail photograph. In this painting I've used high quality artist acrylics, and acrylic mediums, and a high gloss oil based varnish.
