I work from created and found photographs and film stills, and I captured this image from a film still of the unofficial film clip for the Odesza song "Sun Models ft. Madelyn Grant". One of my favourite songs to listen to in the studio whilst painting, I was delighted when a friend sent me the film clip link as I had no idea it featured underwater sea side / beach and bikini clad girls in the shots. I wanted to capture the youthful and free feeling with colour and movement - and to do that I've used contrasting colours in teal and orange along with the cool greens and blues of the background. In this rectangular composition of an underwater world, the light highlights her face and the bubbles she's letting out of her mouth and nose. I have developed my style using contemporary art techniques such as expressionism and pop art. Named after an Alfred Lord Tennyson poem "The Mermaid" where Tennyson writes of the Mermaid capturing the attention of all of the Mermen under the sea.
In this painting I've used professional quality artist acrylics and mediums. As with most of my paintings I personally mount it on an "inbuilt" frame and then paint the painting as the frame and board as one unit. The painting is fitted with a wire and two D rings and is ready to hang. The painting mount is made of wood and can be subject to environmental influences such as humidity which may create short term movement in the board - hence my recommendation to hang the painting directly to the wall on the D-rings.
